S.3, Ep. 3: What was one good thing that happened to you this year?

Sonia: Hi!!
C: What was one good thing that happened to you this year?
S: I moved to New York, but bigger than that, I moved to the US, which means I accomplished a childhood dream. It’s always been my dream to live in the US, I think ever since I was 10 or 12. I had no idea how I was going to do that, and I did not think it’ll be as easy as it was for me - I won the green card lottery!
C: wow!
S: *thank you* It was so fast and so cheap compared to other ways I could’ve gotten here. Being here really showed me how God works, he’s been placing the different puzzle pieces (together) this past couple of years. It feels like everything led me to this moment, and even now that I’m here and with work, I just see that he had a plan all along!

I’m getting married!

One good thing that happened to me this year was traveling to London. It reminded me of just how big the world is beyond NYC and how excited I am to continue traveling in the future.

The best thing that happened this year was I got closer to my family and got a better understanding of myself and my goals.

So many good things to choose from. My oldest graduated from high school and started college. That’s a pretty feel good accomplishment as a mom. This isn’t so happy but since August, I’ve become a semi caretaker for my dad. His dementia got really bad while I was away. So being with him since August has been a big part of my life. I’m grateful I can be there for him. Always trying to find the silver lining.

One good thing that happened to me this year was stepping out of my comfort zone, learnt to trust God more.

It’s weird but breaking up with my boyfriend. Being single made me lock in, I applied for a program I would’ve talked myself out of. Now, I directed my first video and have discovered that I want to be an art director and that really changed my life.

I saw my parents after 6 years and got my masters degree!

A good thing that happened to me this year was realizing I could be an artist for real. I had an art exhibition this year!

Going to a new destination, Antwerp, and seeing the place all my fashion icons are from.

One good thing that has happened to me this year has been finding a good church where I have been able to meet new friends.

I left my Wall Street job and moved all over Brooklyn. I left my mark in Bushwick and Flatbush. Met the coolest roommate ever.

Growing emotionally as a person.

This year, I’ve really been focusing on figuring out that I do have needs, learning what they are, and how to prioritize them.

One good thing is my mum moving back to Nigeria. She’s been missing Naij and the thought of her being back home with her friends and family brings me joy!

Sonia: What was one good thing that happened to you this year?
Going out of my way to do spontaneous things, which I hadn’t done in a while. I think of Paris - that was not something I planned well, or frankly at all! Randomly in the middle of the year, I bought the plane ticket, and figured out the hotel like a week before I got there. I had no itinerary, I just winged it and it was amazing!

This one was really special because it was pretty difficult to get people to think of just one good thing that happened this year. Sometimes you may not even realize how much good is around you until you really think about it.
